Texas becomes one of 23 states to allow the use of electronic insurance proof. SB 181 changes the Transportation Code to permit the use of a wireless device to verify financial responsibility for the operation of an auto. The image displayed on the device must be provided by the insurer. An officer may not access any other information on the device.
Check with your current insurance agent or insurance company to see if they have the app or ability to provide the electronic proof to your smart phone or mobile device.
A court may require the presentation of a paper copy if there is reason to question the validity of the electronic information. For more information, follow the link to this article, Texas becomes one of 23 states to use electronic insurance proof.
